BFS
Our Strategic Vision

The Fund for Brooklyn Friends School

Like most independent schools, our sole sources of income are tuition, income from invested reserves, proceeds from special events, and charitable giving. Generosity from our community directly supports our operating budget, which has a deep and meaningful impact on every student experience here, from Early Childhood through the Upper School.

Giving is a personal decision. Many of our families and grandparents donate because their children and grandchildren are known and loved here. Many of our alumni and families of alumni donate because BFS changed their lives. I ask that you find your own “Why,” and that you make BFS a philanthropic priority by considering a gift that is most meaningful for you and your family. Your support of the Fund for Brooklyn Friends, in any form, makes a significant impact. Every gift counts. Every gift matters. Your support helps us live our mission, every day.

What is the Fund for Brooklyn Friends?

The Fund for Brooklyn Friends is our annual fundraising effort conducted between July 1 and June 30 to raise vital financial support for our entire community. All donations to the Fund for Brooklyn Friends are fully tax deductible.

What do gifts to the Fund for Brooklyn Friends support?

Gifts to the Fund for Brooklyn Friends support the people, programs, and places at the heart of our school. Your gifts help make the BFS experience possible for all of our students by supporting our dedicated colleagues, our engaging curriculum, our commitment to social justice and diversity, equity, and belonging; tuition assistance, educational technology and equipment, arts and athletics at all grade levels, sustainability initiatives, and facility maintenance. We are grateful for all contributions and we strive for 100% participation from our community every year.

What is a Leadership Gift?

Leadership gifts are significant contributions that have a particularly transformative impact on the school’s fundraising efforts. Leadership giving at BFS ranges from gifts of $5,000–$50,000+. Last year, nearly 40 members of the community made Leadership gifts—this year we want to set a new record!

A community of support

Every family has something to give. Family and alumni engagement and participation provide numerous opportunities for connection and provide valuable support for school programs. They also model for our children the school’s ideals of lifelong learning and stewardship.
