Our Strategic Vision

The Counselor-In-Training Program at Camp Brooklyn

Camp Brooklyn @ Brooklyn Friends School is offering a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program to students who will be at least 15 years old by the start of camp, and two seasons prior experience as a camper.  The CIT program gives young adults valuable training experience in a dynamic summer day camp in Downtown Brooklyn.

Vision Statement:  Camp Brooklyn @ Brooklyn Friends School centers children in a warm, caring and inclusive environment that encourages them to explore, be curious, create and have fun. Our colleagues provide children with strong and supportive role models, fostering community, empathy and a strong sense of wholeness and well-being.

Training under the supervision of head counselors, CITs gain valuable experience working with campers and engaging in a wide variety of tasks that will ensure that children have a safe and enjoyable camp experience. CITs are expected to  assist the counselors and activity specialists in the daily routine. Specific expectations  include: leading games and activities; assisting children with art, sports, movement and other activities; assisting staff and chaperones on off-site trips; assisting with attendance and sign-in/sign-out procedures; maintaining a clean and safe environment.
