Fostering Academic Achievement & Unique Potential
In the Brooklyn Friends Lower School, subject matter in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, Spanish, information technology, and media literacy flourishes in an environment that also prioritizes visual arts, woodworking, dance, music, and physical education. To develop the unique potential in each Lower School student, teachers not only seek to foster academic achievement but also to stimulate students’ critical thinking skills, intellectual curiosity, and emotional intelligence.
Spaces for new Lower School students in Grades 2-4 are limited. The admissions process for Second, Third and Fourth Grades begins with the creation of a Ravenna account and the submission of an online application.
Applicants for Grades 2-4 will be contacted to schedule an interview if space becomes available. An application fee will be required to schedule the visit. We recommend submitting supplemental materials in a timely fashion and attending an open house regardless of interview status as families can be invited to schedule an interview at any time throughout the season.
Second, Third, and Fourth Grade children must be seven, eight, and nine years old respectively by September 1 in the year they start school.
The process includes an applicant and parent interview and the submission of supplemental materials. In addition to the online application, school transcripts for the two prior years (2019-2020 and 2020-2021) must be submitted by November 30. Applications submitted after the application deadline will be held and considered as space and time allow.
Families may be contacted at any time during the admissions season to schedule an interview, if space becomes available. Only applicant families who are invited to schedule an interview will be asked to pay $100 application fee. We strongly recommend submitting supplemental materials as soon as possible and attending an open house.
