Create a Ravenna profile. You will use Ravenna to register for a school tour, to complete your online application and to submit the application fee and all supplemental materials. Required materials include a current teacher evaluation, transcripts, and the ISEE Primary entrance exam.
Schedule a testing date with the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). Brooklyn Friends School requires the ISEE Primary for admission. Be sure to list Brooklyn Friends School (#330610) as a test result recipient.
Wait to hear from us. If we are able to consider your application, we will contact you to schedule a classroom visit and parent interview. Families will be prompted to pay the fee at the time the visit is scheduled. Please contact us for information about need-based fee waivers or reductions.
If applicable, apply for Financial Aid. Learn more about financial aid for BFS here. (Please note that financial aid, if applicable, is also not assured for accepted applicants particularly for those applying to grades that are not entry points.)
Admissions Grades 2-4
Fostering Academic Achievement & Unique Potential
In the Brooklyn Friends Lower School, subject matter in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, Spanish, information technology, and media literacy flourishes in an environment that also prioritizes visual arts, woodworking, dance, music and physical education. In order to develop the unique potential in each Lower School student, teachers not only seek to foster academic achievement but also to stimulate students’ critical thinking skills, intellectual curiosity, and emotional intelligence.
Spaces for new Lower School students in Grades 2-4 are very limited. The admissions process for Second, Third and Fourth Grades begins with the creation of a Ravenna account and the submission of an online application.
Applicants for Grades 2-4 will be contacted to schedule an interview if space becomes available. A non-refundable $125 application fee will be required to schedule the visit. We recommend submitting supplemental materials in a timely fashion and attending a school tour regardless of interview status as families can be invited to schedule an interview at any time throughout the season.
Second, Third and Fourth Grade children must be seven, eight and nine years old respectively by September 1 in the year they start school.
The process includes a classroom visit for the applicant and a parent interview. In addition to the online application, the applicant’s 2018-19 school transcript must be submitted by November 30. Applications submitted after the application deadline will be held and considered as space and time allow.
Families may be contacted at any time during the admissions season to schedule a classroom visit and parent interview, if space becomes available. Only applicant families who are invited to schedule a visit will be asked to pay the non-refundable $125 application fee. We strongly recommend submitting supplemental materials as soon as possible and attending a school tour.
If you applied to BFS for the 2019-2020 school year and your child was placed on the waitlist, you may submit a new application to be considered for the 2020-2021 school year.
