College Counseling
College Preparation and Counseling at BFS
College Counseling at Brooklyn Friends is very much aligned with and guided by our Mission and Core Values. We engage in a highly individualized approach to the college exploration and application process, working closely with each student to carefully design a strategic plan based on his or her unique goals, preferences, and accomplishments. From start to finish, parents are encouraged to take part in the college application process.
College counseling officially begins in December of 11th grade at our Junior College Night. Students then begin to work closely with the college counselors in regularly scheduled small groups and individual meetings, which can include parents, advisors, deans, and others. We help students explore ways to research and visit college campuses, discover their “best fit” schools, map out a standardized testing plan, create a step-by-step approach to applications, meet deadlines, write college essays, and harness unique application strategies. College counselors also work closely with faculty and administrators to support students through the application process.
While college counseling officially starts during the student’s junior year, we continue to develop and sponsor programs that provide timely access to college knowledge, college preparation, and the college office throughout all divisions for students and parents.
