Admissions Grades 2-4
Fostering Academic Achievement & Unique Potential
In the Brooklyn Friends Lower School, subject matter in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, Spanish, information technology, and media literacy flourishes in an environment that also prioritizes visual arts, woodworking, dance, music and physical education. In order to develop the unique potential in each Lower School student, teachers not only seek to foster academic achievement but also to stimulate students’ critical thinking skills, intellectual curiosity, and emotional intelligence.
The admissions process for Second, Third and Fourth Grades begins with the creation of a Ravenna account and the submission of an online application. Spaces for new Lower School students in Grades 2-4 are based on attrition.
Applicants for Grades 2-4 will be contacted to schedule an interview if space becomes available. A non-refundable $125 application fee will be required to schedule the visit. We recommend submitting supplemental materials in a timely fashion and attending a school tour regardless of interview status as families can be invited to schedule an interview at any time throughout the season.
Second, Third and Fourth Grade children must be seven, eight and nine years old respectively by September 1 in the year they start school.
We process applications submitted by the deadline for limited spaces and, if necessary, on a rolling basis. We recommend submitting your application through Ravenna and your child’s 2016-17 school record to us at email@example.com as soon as possible. If we are able to consider your application, we will contact you to schedule a visiting day and parent interview.
If you submitted an application and fee for the Lower School for the 2017-18 school year and your child was placed on the waitlist, you may submit an application for the Lower School program for the 2018-19 school year without paying the application fee. If you are applying to a new division this year, the non-refundable $100 application fee is required when you submit your application.
Student Test Scores
Families must schedule an ECAA testing date with the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). Be sure to list Brooklyn Friends School (#330610) as a test result recipient. Results are due with your completed application materials.
If you think you may qualify for a fee reduction for testing please contact our office to find out more about the possibility of receiving a testing waiver through ISAAGNY and ERB.
