Lower School
Admissions Grades 2-4

Fostering Academic Achievement & Unique Potential

In the Brooklyn Friends Lower School, subject matter in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, Spanish, information technology, and media literacy flourishes in an environment that also prioritizes visual arts, woodworking, dance, music and physical education. In order to develop the unique potential in each Lower School student, teachers not only seek to foster academic achievement but also to stimulate students’ critical thinking skills, intellectual curiosity, and emotional intelligence.

The admissions process of the Second, Third and Fourth Grades process begins with the creation of a Ravenna account and the submission of an online application.

Applicants for Grades 2-4 will be contacted to schedule an interview only if space becomes available. A non-refundable $100 application fee will be required to schedule the visit. Families can be contacted at any time throughout the admissions season, so we recommend submitting supplemental materials in a timely fashion and attending a school tour regardless of interview status.

Admissions Process

Second, Third and Fourth Grade children must be seven, eight and nine years old respectively by September 30 in the year they start school. Spaces for new Lower School students in Grades 2-4 are based only on attrition and are very limited. We process applications for those limited places on a rolling basis. We recommend submitting your application and your child’s 2015-16 school record as soon as possible. If we are able to consider your application, we will contact you to schedule a visiting day and parent interview.

  1. Create a Ravenna profile. You’ll use Ravenna to register for a school tour, complete your online application (including the Parent Supplement) and to submit all supplemental materials. Required materials include the Teacher Evaluation for Grades 2-4 and transcripts.

  2. Schedule a testing date with the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). Brooklyn Friends requires the ECAA for admission. Be sure to list Brooklyn Friends School (#330610) as a test result recipient.

  3. Wait to hear from us. If we are able to consider your application, we will contact you to schedule a classroom visit and interview. You will be asked to submit the non-refundable $100 application fee at that time. Please contact us for information about need-based fee waivers or reductions.

  4. If applicable, apply for Financial Aid. Learn more about financial aid for Brooklyn Friends School here.

If you are applying to a new division this year, the fee is required after you are invited to schedule your interview.
