Our Strategic Vision

Copyrights & Plagiarism

As part of our unit on digital citizenship, students learned about copyrights and plagiarism. We learned that all original works (e.g., images, writing, music) are copyrighted and that we need to ask for the author’s permission before we use, copy or distribute the work. We also talked about copyright infringement and its consequences. The students then watched a BrainPop video on plagiarism and learned how to we give credit when credit is due. In conjunction with the fourth grade writing and research unit, we discussed how to paraphrase and document our sources in bibliographies. Student will continue exploring these ideas further with their classroom teachers and the librarians during their library classes as they embark on their research projects. To review the concepts we learned, students used the app Socrative to share their responses with the class in real time.
