The Office of Equity & Inclusion of Brooklyn Friends School is excited to announce its fifth annual Young Womyn of Strength Conference on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, at the Upper School, 116 Lawrence Street.
This is a community event, and young womyn leaders or future leaders in grades 7-12 are invited to attend.
Michaela Angela Davis is the keynote speaker for the conference. A renowned writer on African American style, race, gender, and hip hop, Ms. Davis is an activist, producer, and actress known for MAD FREE: Liberating Conversations about Our Image, Beauty and Power, and Stay Woke:The Black Lives Matter Movement, among other films and productions.
The theme of this year’s conference is: Reclaiming Our Time…Creating and Owning Our Narratives. A primary goal of the conference is to provide young womyn with positive messages from local and regional role models. The workshops will empower young womyn to embrace and value their individual definitions of self. They will be interactive, informative and applicable to the lives of the young womyn. This conference is open to cisgender womyn, trans and gender non conforming individuals.
