The Library is for Book Lovers

To celebrate Valentine’s Day last week our 6th graders participated in a few rounds of Book Speed Dating.  This game is a great way to introduce students to genres, authors, and books they might normally overlook.  It was also a great way for me to break out my cheesy matchmaker impersonation and thoroughly embarrass my students with all the corny book/love references.

I got plenty of inspiration (here, here, and here!) from librarians doing the same thing with their students and modified a version that worked for our size, space, and time.  It was great.  Kids laughed, rolled their eyes at all the love talk, and best of all lots of new books got checked out.
