Endowment Giving
Endowment
The endowment forms the capital strength of the school by providing long-term sustainability, allowing us to carry out our mission in perpetuity. Gifts to the endowment are permanent assets and give Brooklyn Friends the power to continue to respond to long-term needs.
General Endowment Giving
Endowed gifts provide a reliable source of income that allows the school to continue investing in opportunities for students and colleagues. Unrestricted endowment gifts provide essential revenue for the school to carry out our mission each year.
Sara Soll Student Engagement Fund:
This Student Engagement Fund, a cause close to Sara’s heart, allows us to enrich the everyday experience of all Brooklyn Friends students by supporting programming such as visiting authors, field trips, student travel, and guest artists for Preschool through 12th Grade. This Fund will allow Sara’s legacy to impact BFS students and families for years to come. Watch a video to learn more from Sara about the importance of this Fund.
Dr. Larry Weiss Endowed Fund for Merit Scholarship
Brooklyn Friends School awards up to three merit scholarships to 8th graders who are continuing their BFS education into Upper School. In honor of former Head of School Larry Weiss’s retirement, this endowed fund was established in support of the BFS Merit Scholarship program.
Michael Nill Fund for Faculty Development
Created in honor of former Head of School Michael Nill, this fund supports professional growth of all teaching colleagues and the work they bring to their classrooms.
Creating a Named Endowed Fund
In establishing an endowed fund – in your name or in honor or in memory of a loved one – you are providing future generations the opportunity to benefit from the mission and values of a BFS experience.
You can create an endowed fund during your lifetime, over a period of years or all at once. Many donors also establish their endowed funds through bequest intentions.
Legacy Giving
The 1867 Society, our planned giving society, recognizes the generosity of Brooklyn Friends School alumni, families, grandfamilies and friends who have chosen to remember BFS in their estate plans through a will, trust or other planned gift. If you have already included Brooklyn Friends in your will or as part of another planned gift, we hope you will let us know so that we can recognize and thank you.
