We asked new colleagues to answer a few questions to help us get to know them. Here we meet Kirsten Ferdinand who joined the Brooklyn Friends School community this fall as a Preschool Head Teacher in the Purple Room. Read on to learn more about Kirsten.
Where did you grow up?
Manhattan
Where were you/what were you doing before you came to BFS?
I worked at Grace Church School prior to coming to BFS.
Did you take up any new hobbies during the pandemic? What is your favorite quarantine activity?
I’m super into home decor and designing spaces for myself, family, and friends.
Why did you choose BFS as your place of employment?
I connected with Maura (Head of Preschool) at a job fair and had a really good feeling about it. I was also happy to return to teaching at a progressive school.
If we were to interview a lower school version of you, how would you describe yourself? What were your earliest hobbies and dreams?
I’ve always wanted to be a teacher like my mom. I played violin and was quite the climber!
If we interviewed you again a year from now, what’s one thing you’d love to have accomplished here?
I’m hoping to learn from my colleagues and offer my own insight.
What is your favorite book from childhood?
Rainbow Fish
