Community Events This Tuesday and Wednesday

A Celebration on October 27 for Indigenous Peoples Day

The theme is: Caring for the Earth, Seven Generations in the Face of Climate Change. These are free, family-friendly events, and all are invited to attend.

  • 4 PM: at Brooklyn Friends School, New York Dedication of Peace Pole
  • 6-9 PM: Brooklyn Quaker Meetinghouse, 110 Schermerhorn Street

This program will begin with a Traditional Address of Thanksgiving and Care for the Earth and for All Life. There will be Music by Akwesasne Women Singers, a traditional Mohawk Women’s Singing Group from Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation, followed by Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Social Dancing. Educators’ Workshop on Mexican Folk Art on October 28

Friends of Oaxacan Folk Art is hosting a Workshop for Educators on “Great Masters of Mexican Folk Art” in the BFS meetinghouse at Pearl Street on Wed. Oct. 28, 2015, from 6:30 to 8:30pm. This is a free event and a wonderful professional development opportunity. Dr. Cynthia Weill will present an introduction to Mexican Folk Art, and Ceramicist Fernando Peguero will provide a demonstration followed by a Q & A session. Register here.
