A Celebration on October 27 for Indigenous Peoples Day

The theme is: Caring for the Earth, Seven Generations in the Face of Climate Change. These are free, family-friendly events, and all are invited to attend.

  • 4 PM: at Brooklyn Friends School, New York Dedication of Peace Pole
  • 6-9 PM: Brooklyn Quaker Meetinghouse, 110 Schermerhorn Street

This program will begin with a Traditional Address of Thanksgiving and Care for the Earth and for All Life. There will be┬áMusic by Akwesasne Women Singers, a traditional Mohawk Women’s Singing Group from Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation, followed by┬áHaudenosaunee (Iroquois) Social Dancing. Educators’ Workshop on Mexican Folk Art on October 28

Friends of Oaxacan Folk Art is hosting a Workshop for Educators on “Great Masters of Mexican Folk Art” in the BFS meetinghouse at Pearl Street on Wed. Oct. 28, 2015, from 6:30 to 8:30pm. This is a free event and a wonderful professional development opportunity. Dr. Cynthia Weill will present an introduction to Mexican Folk Art, and Ceramicist Fernando Peguero will provide a demonstration followed by a Q & A session. Register here.
