Alum Spotlight: Lifetime Friend Returns to Stage

Congratulations to Amara Granderson ’13, who is a Lifetime Friend, and will be starring in the new off-Broadway production, pray. Through music, movement, and human connection, pray celebrates and reckons with the complexity of spiritual inheritance, summoning the curiosity, anger, confusion and bliss that transcends generations of Black womxn across the African diaspora. pray is co-produced by the National Black Theatre. Prior to pray,
Amara has previously appeared on Broadway in for colored girls, and nationally in a number of productions, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Harlem in Pittsburgh and Fly in San Diego,
Amara returned to BFS last spring for our Reunion celebration and fit right in at her old stomping grounds, 10 years after her graduation. “Brooklyn Friends raised me through perhaps the most formative years of my life,” she said. “To maintain a closeness with the community is to honor my Quaker family.”
Tickets for pray are available now.
