A Standing Ovation for Our IB Dance Showcase: Celebrating Student Creativity and Artistry
Congratulations to Brooklyn Friends School’s amazing student choreographers—Lara Z. ‘25, Jordan S. ‘25, Isabel G. ‘25, and Mia D-L. ‘25—on their extraordinary work in the IB Dance Showcase and Exhibition! Held last week in the Black Box Theater at the Upper School, the event celebrated talent, creativity, and artistry.
A special shoutout to Ben F. ‘25, whose photography—a few shots featured above—not only captured the vibrant energy of the showcase but was also part of an impressive accompanying dance photo exhibition. Ben’s work masterfully highlighted the intersection of dance and photography, presenting dynamic moments of movement through a truly unique lens.
The evening was nothing short of inspiring, featuring original compositions created and performed by our IB Dance students and other talented Upper School dancers. The post-performance Q&A provided a deeper look into the students’ creative processes and artistic visions, reflecting their passion and dedication to the craft.
As part of their IB Dance studies, students explore the composition, performance, and analysis of dance from diverse cultural traditions and perspectives. This global and reflective approach deepens their appreciation of dance as a universal art form.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success, especially teacher and director Winston Benons, for guiding our students to shine. It was truly a night to remember!
