BFS Student Athletes Take Part in Signing Day

As high school student-athletes from around the nation formally announced their intentions for college, BFS was thrilled to have two Panthers signing letters of intent on National Signing Day. On Wednesday afternoon, in the Third Floor Commons of the BFS Upper School, two members of the Class of 2023—Oona V. and Carter R.—declared their next stops for their student-athletic journeys.

In front of their families, friends, teachers, and school leadership, Oona and Carter announced that they will be heading to Wesleyan University and Williams College, respectively, in the fall of 2023. Oona has taken the NYC high school running world by storm during her time at BFS, while Carter—forgive us—has made a big splash on the swimming scene.

“Today is an example of what can happen when you pursue your passions and use your skills and your brilliance to just go for it,” BFS Head of School Crissy Cáceres told the enthusiastic crowd. “You make Brooklyn Friends School super proud. Thank you for being such an example to your peers and our school community as a whole.”

BFS Director of Athletic Program and Vision, Christian Brown, took a moment during his remarks to compliment the two student athletes for being able to balance academics and athletics and to be able to do it all at a very high level. “Know that your BFS community is always here for you,” he added. “We will be following your careers and cheering you on from Brooklyn.”

After officially signing the letters of intent, the two student athletes addressed the crowd, thanking their families, school, and friends. Congratulations to both Oona and Carter!
