Our Strategic Vision

A BFS Community Video Celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.

“Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.

Dear Brooklyn Friends Community,

It is extraordinary to know that every member of our school community engaged with our collective commitment to celebrating Black Brilliance. In six weeks, we were ignited by poetry, we listened to stories, we made the drum talk in Bomba, we danced with our families, we made art, we studied the history, we commemorated Changemakers, broke bread as a community, and lifted up a movement we are working at every single day.

In doing so, there was magic in the air, as we infused our school practice with the power of joy, strength and excellence making them actionable and evidenced. Every bit of energy illuminated our community’s power to create belonging, respect and reimagine a historical narrative and experience of power, resistance and resilience. Thank you all for your joy, magic, enthusiasm and partnership.

With that, I leave you with our community’s powerful video message, which we created together.

Special thanks for the continued support of Brooklyn Friends & Family Black History Month Committee.
