BFS Honors the Class of 2025

More than a month before commencement—45 days in fact—the Brooklyn Friends School  Class of 2025 was celebrated by all of the Upper School students, colleagues, school leadership, and their families. To say it is well-deserved would be an understatement of considerable proportions. Dozens of extended family members gathered outside the entrance of the BFS Upper School on Lawrence Street to loudly cheer on their soon-to-be-graduates, as they paraded out of the school. It was a moment that the students—and family members—will not soon forget.

One hour earlier, those same seniors were seated in the Pearl Street Meeting House, receiving accolades from their Upper School peers and colleagues. College counselors Frank Cabrera and Lin Yang paid tribute to all of the seniors for their accomplishments, their journey, and their journeys to come. Members of the Class of 2025 who received merit scholarships were recognized, with two students—Isabel Geller and Ben Farkas—receiving special recognition for their incredible achievements.

This fall, Isabel will be participating in the Baruch Honors Program at Baruch College. “Isabel, I can not think of anyone more deserving of this honor,” Frank said.

“I feel so honored,” Isabel said. “This is a moment when I was really able to take in the love and support from my community. … I have so much gratitude for everybody here at BFS.”

The next senior honoree was Ben, who is a recipient of the United States Air Force ROTC Scholarship, and will attend Boston University. Following his graduation—Second Lieutenant Shane Milligan of the Air Force explained to everyone gathered in the Meeting House—Ben will spend time as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force or Space Force. For Ben, it was an incredible moment in his long journey at BFS.

“I have been here since kindergarten, and have spent my entire life here and I am so appreciative of what this school has done for me,” Ben said. “I am happy to represent my class, I love them so much, and excited for what’s next.”

Congratulations to Isabel, Ben, and all of our seniors! Over the next seven weeks you will all be celebrated in many ways!
