All Aboard for New Teachers, Administrators, and Staff Members

 

We are thrilled to welcome more than 30 new faculty members to the Brooklyn Friends School. Read about them below and be sure to welcome them into our community of friends.

New to our Administrative Team
Lisa Arrastia, Head of the Upper School
Lisa comes to BFS from University at Albany, State University at New York (formerly “SUNY Albany”) where she taught in the Program for Writing and Critical Inquiry for five years. For the last 25 years, she’s been a division head; curriculum designer; school designer, founder, and director; 6-12 teacher in English, social studies, and history, and an educational consultant to and curriculum designer for schools and nonprofit social change organizations.

Christine Schwegel, Chief Financial Officer
Christine Schwegel comes to Brooklyn Friends with a distinguished record of proven accomplishments in the not-for-profit and private sectors of public accounting auditing, corporate finance, and seven years of not-for-profit Chief Financial Officer experience including three years at Spence Chapin Services and three years at The Hewitt School in Manhattan. Christine earned an MBA at the Columbia University School of Business and was a summa cum laude graduate of Hofstra University, majoring in Accounting.

New to the Office of All School Enrollment

Katherine Corbin, Associate Director of Enrollment

Katherine joins us after serving Saint Ann’s School, Science, Language & Arts International School and Friends Seminary in their advancement, communications and admissions efforts, collectively. She received her BA in Sociology and a certificate in Markets & Management Studies at Duke University.

Nicolas Edwards, Admission Screener and Enrollment Coordinator
Nicolas rejoins the Brooklyn Friends School community after graduating from BFS in 2013. He received his BA in Sociology from Columbia University. From there, he worked at the Greenwich Country Day School as a Co-Kindergarten teacher. He enjoys playing squash, basketball, and chess. Nicolas is excited to be returning to Brooklyn Friends as an Admission Screener and Enrollment Coordinator.

Tina Putney Mackler, Enrollment Coordinator

Tina, a current 3rd and 7th grade BFS parent, joins us after a few years at home with her children. Prior to this she was an event planner at Parents and Traditional Home magazines. She received her BA in History from St. Lawrence University and a culinary arts degree from The French Culinary Institute. She is excited to be working with the Admissions team.

Kathleen Cann and Rachel Rowan, formerly PS Assistant Teachers are now Co-Head Teachers in the Preschool 4sPurple Room

Danielle Clarke is now Kindergarten Head Teacher after four years as a Head Teacher in the Preschool

Christopher Gollmar is now Kindergarten Head Teacher after working as a Lower School Associate Teacher for two years
