The Horizon’s Reading Challenge Kicks Off on January 30th!
In an effort to further embrace and support Horizons at Brooklyn Friends School, and because last year’s Horizons Reading Challenge fundraiser was such an amazing success, we are participating in our 7th Annual Horizons Reading Challenge starting January 30th through February 28th! With your help and service, we smashed our goal last year of $35,000 and were able to raise close to $50,000 in support our Horizons students! This year, we have again set a goal to raise $35,000 and are inviting all Lower School students and families to join us in this voluntary service effort.
How to Participate:
Children will set a goal for how many books they will read within the timeframe of the Reading Challenge. They can read independently, or with a parent or caregiver. Family and friends are asked to sponsor the student’s reading efforts by making a donation through each students personal donation page, powered by the organization 99Pledges: See sample page. All funds raised will be applied to the cost of sending a child to Horizons for the summer enrichment program, approximately $3,500. per child.
This year the Horizon’s Reading Challenge will begin on January 30th and end on February 28th. You can sign up online here or speak to a parent volunteer at drop-off and pick-up from January 24th, 25th, 28th, 29th, 30th (8am and 2:30pm). This year, we will also host a Read-a-Palooza at BFS the morning of Saturday February 23rd for BFS children and Horizons children to read together with some special guest authors and reach their goals! The deadline to register for our Reading Challenge is January 30th. Although this is the Lower School Reading Challenge, all BFS students and parents who want to participate, may do so. We welcome all to join our cause!
Thank you so much for supporting Horizons at Brooklyn Friends and happy reading!
