The BFS MS Boys Cross Country team put in a fine show in their race at Van Cortlandt Park. Eighth grader Miles N. won his fourth race for the season to remain undefeated for the the year. His time of 8:13 for the 1.3 miles course placed him head and shoulders above the competition. Fellow eighth grader Emmitt S. (9:27, 6th place) and seventh grader Milo H. (11:45, 13th place) also gave spirited performances. Blue Pride!!
On Thursday the BFS Girls Varsity Volleyball team defeated LFNY 2-0 (25-18, 25-20) in the upper gym. They played one of their best games of the season. The team finally looked comfortable with the new line up, using one setter. Junior Chloe B., after a shoulder injury, did a great job opposite the setter, spiking and serving at a high percentage rate. Our co-captains senior Herron H. and junior Anna also performed at high level, keeping the team focused and determined. Our freshman setter, Caroline C. was consistent and in charge of the rotation throughout the match making it easy for the hitters. Our middle hitters sophomore Fiona and freshman Abby M. did a great job at the net. The rest of our team, freshman Taty R., sophomore Karie M., juniors Sarah M., and Sofia S. did a great job stepping in to play great defense. It was a great team effort…Blue Pride!!
The BFS Girls Varsity Soccer team went on the road to play Lawrence Woodmere Academy. Senior Janna J. served up a birthday treat with her first two goals of the season on her helping the team win 5-0. Two more goals from Halima M. and one from Hannah H. completed the rest of the scoring. Hannah also served up three assists for her teammates. With the 5-0 result, BFS recorded back-to-back clean sheets and move to impressive 6-1-2 record for the season. BFS is looking forward to its next game on Monday versus a tough ACIS league opponent.
The BFS MS Soccer team battled their way to a hard fought 0-0 scoreline against a strong Rudolf Steiner team. Despite dominating possession for large periods of the game, BFS was unable to convert pressure into goals. In the first half, their best chance fell to eighth grader Sam F., who was a constant threat to the Steiner defense. At the other end, seventh grader goalie Alex B. made an outstanding save to ensure the scores were level at halftime. In the second half, BFS pushed for a win, but it wasn’t to be. A tie was probably a fair score for both teams, and BFS was happy to have shut out the opposition for the second time this season. Blue Pride!!
