Game Highlights for Week of November 17th, 2014

11/19/14


On Tuesday the BFS Boys Varsity Basketball Team defeated LREI 67-45 as they faced faced off against the tournament host and won wire to wire. The Panthers jumped out on LREI with a 23-4 run in the first quarter and never looked back.  Their largest lead being 26 points during the game. The leading scorer was junior guard Quran D., who had 22 points and added 6 assists. Junior Chris B. finished with 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Senior Adam W. scored 12 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and had 2 blocks. Other contributors were sophomore guard Brendan G. with 7 points, junior guard Zac B. with 4 points, and sophomore Phil C., and junior Tyler V. both chipped in with 3 points a piece. The Panthers will play for the tournament championship this Friday at 6:30pm at the Thompson Athletic Center.  Blue Pride!!

On Wednesday the BFS Boys JV Basketball Team defeated LREI 50-41 as they faced faced off against the tournament host and won the game.  The game was filled with drama. LREI came out strong and took the early lead 14-7 after one quarter of play. Miles B. who entered the game in the second quarter was instant offense scoring 15 points. He went on to finish with a game high 31 points for BFS.  Sophomore Maalik D. protected the paint and picked up four blocked shots along the way. Junior Noah W. grabbed a late steal and was fouled as he made the basket and free throw to complete the three point play. The Panthers will play for the tournament championship this Friday at 5:00pm at the Thompson Athletic Center. Blue Pride!! 

11/22/14


On Friday the BFS Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated St. Ann’s 20-13 at St. Francis College. The victory was the teams first in the ACIS League. BFS was up 3-2 after one quarter of play.  The team found themselves leading 9-5 at the half.  The girls let their opponent back in the game during the third quarter as St. Ann’s was able to tie the game on numerous occasions. BFS found themselves down at one point 13-11.  But the girls managed to regroup and tie the game and then take the lead for good.  After three quarters BFS was up 17-13. Everyone contributed to the victory. The team continues to grow. Solid defense and timely scoring proved to be enough for BFS to earn the well deserved victory.  Senior forward Julia B. led the way for BFS with 12 points.  Junior point guard Abby M. added 4 points, and junior forward Charlotte S. and sophomore guard Ivy L. each chipped in with a basket.  Junior guard Sierra V. led the way on the defensive end as she brought some much needed energy.  The team will be back on the court at St. Francis on Monday as they take on another ACIS league opponent in Berkeley Carroll (tip off at 3:30pm). Blue Pride!!

The BFS Boys JV Basketball Team defeated Browning 53-30 in the LREI Tip Off Tournament Championship Game at the Thompson Athletic Center.  Congrats to all the players and coaches!!  The team is off to a great start (2-0).

It was great win and a well played tournament for the team.  Miles B. continues to scorch the net putting up 24 points followed by Maalik D. who had a double, double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, but the real mvp of the game was the Panthers aggressive defense which forced Browning into 17 turnovers. The Panthers will be in action again on Monday on the road as they head to Westchester to play against The French American School.

The BFS Boys Varsity Basketball Team defeated Browning 81-31 in the LREI Tip Off Tournament Championship Game at the Thompson Athletic Center.  Congrats to all the players and coaches!!  The team is off to a great start (2-0).

The Panthers were led by sophomores Brendan G. and Charlie S., who had 19 and 14 points apiece. Junior Tyler V., came off the bench and added 13 points. Senior Adam W., scored 7 points and 4 rebounds.
Junior guard Quran D., had 11 points, 7 assists, and 7 steals as he was named tournament MVP for his play. Junior center Chris B., also chipped in with 12 points and 8 rebounds, an he was named tournament all-star selection.  The Panthers will be in action again on Monday at home as they to play against The French American School.
