Clearpool Trip, Third Grade

Dear Third Grade Families:

We hope you and your children are looking forward to the annual third grade end-of-year camping trip to Clearpool in Carmel, New York. We will be going to Clearpool on Thursday, June 7 and returning on Friday, June 8. Attached to this email are the two required forms and the packing list.

To help third grade parents learn more about Clearpool, we have scheduled an orientation meeting from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 10. We will discuss the importance of the trip, daily schedule, eating and sleeping arrangements, what to bring, etc. There will be time for questions. Your child will be able to join our regular Afterschool program from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. if you need childcare.

Clearpool is situated on 350 beautiful acres, 60 miles north of Manhattan. It is part of a network of educational sites managed by Green Chimneys – an education nonprofit committed to developing exemplary educational environments. There is a 25 acre private lake for swimming and boating; hiking trails; a large dining room; lovely dormitory cottages that sleep 24 children in semi-private cubicles; nine classrooms, a children’s library; science laboratories; log cabin, barn, pond, and garden – used for nature programming; an indoor gym, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts; playing fields; an outdoor amphitheater and a Health and Wellness Center.

Our intent for this trip has always been to design a balanced program of environmental experiences and fun-filled outdoor activities that promote collaboration and meaningful learning. Our schedule will include workshops in pond ecology and bird adaptations. In addition, children will go hiking, boating, and swimming, do team building activities, and sing at the evening campfire.

Required Forms (please return to your child’s classroom teacher by Friday, May 11):

  • Parental Consent Form 17-18; and,
  • BFS Overnight Trip Form (Please note that if your child has prescription medication that they will be taking at Clearpool, you will need a doctor’s signature.)

If your child is prescribed a rescue medication, we require that you send one inhaler or two epipens on the trip. Please check the expiration dates before submitting any rescue medications to us.

All medications (other than rescue meds) must be given to Alicia Christian, RN by Tuesday, June 5. Prescription and non-prescription medications must be kept in their original containers in a labeled zip lock bag. No supplements, holistic medications, vitamins or other non-FDA approved medications will be accepted or administered for the Clearpool trip.

All rescue medication (Epi-pens and inhalers) must be sent with your child on the bus on Thursday, June 7. Please pack these in a small backpack or bag.

We look forward to sharing this enriching outdoor learning experience with our children.

In friendship,
Jacquelyn Condie, Head of Lower School
Diane Mackie, Assistant Head of Lower School for Academics
